Dr. Kendall Harris grew up on cattle ranches in Texas, Tennessee, and Alabama and from a young age knew that he would become a veterinarian. As a kid, he participated in 4-H, showing club calves, and as an adult, bred Arabian horses for over 30 years. At 15, Dr. Harris started working at Kent Animal Hospital in Birmingham's Lakeview District where he worked through high school and college. Dr. Harris graduated with high honors from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1980. He went back to work at Kent Animal Hospital as a veterinarian. In April 1981, he purchased Gutteridge Animal Clinic on Fourth Avenue South and changed the name to Southside Animal Hospital. Over the 36 years that he practiced at Southside Animal Hospital, he has had the good fortune to care for the pets of multiple generations of families. In June 2017, Southside Animal Hospital became Avondale Animal Hospital at our new location. Dr. Harris lives in the Norwood neighborhood of Birmingham with his partner, Tom, and their three foundling pups, Lamar, Geneva, and Marion, and they all enjoy spending time in the North Carolina mountains and the Forgotten Coast of Florida.
